What Are Your Motives?

“What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it. And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.” James 4:1-3 NLT

What is your motive today?  What are your motives in general?  How often do we get jealous of other’s gifts? We sometimes get caught up seeing others highly praised more than we think they should be so we start to envy that person because we want what they have. Our motives are to get what they have without thinking or considering the consequence.  So what was it that made you that upset to do anything to someone that probably deserved their opportunity? We become so jealous that we look to bury anyone in our way that we see as less qualified than we are. What type of mindset is this? It is not of God. God shows us his grace even in the times we are most dangerous and kind of forget who we should be faithful to. Why is it that when we become so greedy and have those bitter and jealous moments Christ still loves us?

So what is the fight that you’re most struggling with? Stop looking to point out who is to blame when you don’t even consider looking at yourself. Look at what Luke 6:42says, “How can you think of saying, ‘Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.” Pray and seek God’s face for your innermost struggle. He will reveal it to you to get over it. Remember to ask God to help you look past other people’s struggle to help and deliver you from your own. Own your struggle today to allow God to enter your life and fix it to heal you. Have a good day and pass this on.
